Ocean Floor:
The Ocean Floor is the deepest part of the ocean. Most animals here don't have eyes because seeing in these depths is useless. Many parts of the ocean floor are part of trenches, deep pits in the ocean floor that run for up to 1,000 miles and can be over 36,000 feet deep. Many animals can live down here though. For example, the tripod fish stands on 3 stalks and waits for pray to come its way. It uses antennae-like limbs to feel for things since they can't see. Sometimes, hydrothermal vents are found on the bottom of the ocean. Smoke comes from out of them because the hot mantle is beneath them. Since it is so warm, many animals can survive here. Tube worms are commonly found on hydrothermal vents. Tiny crabs, shrimp, and isopods can live here because of the nutrients and warmth of the hydrothermal vent.

Midnight Zone:
The Midnight Zone is the zone below the Twilight Zone. This zone is over 3,300 feet deep and contains some of the most interesting and weird creatures. It is completely black this deep so many creatures are bio-luminescent, which means they give off light. Many creatures give off blue light, but there are creatures that flash red because at those depths, the eyes of the creatures can't see red. It is hard to find food here, so many creatures can eat just about anything. An example is the gulper eel. This eel can swallow creatures twice its size and has a huge mouth to eat anything. There are no plants down this deep. Many creatures here survive on something called whale fall. Whale fall are the dead bodies of whales that sink down to the bottom of the ocean. Many animals go there to feast on the whale's dead body and get much nutrients. Creatures can be found around whale fall even after a year of being on the bottom of the ocean.

Twilight Zone:
The Twilight Zone is the zone right below the sunlight zone. This zone is known for having very little sunlight and virtual darkness for humans. The twilight zone ranges from 656-3,300 feet deep. The zone is so far down that very little sunlight can reach here. Since there is very little sunlight, hardly any plants live here. Only some plants can survive down here. Sperm whales dive down here to hunt giant squid. Many animals are transparent down here to hide from their predators. Some animals also glow so that they can see.

Sunlight Zone:
The sunlight zone is the zone on the top of the ocean. Here is where most sea life that we have discovered lives. The sunlight zone ranges from 0-656 feet deep. The sun can shine through these layers, allowing many types of plant life to grow. here you can find dolphins, whales, fish, sharks, and pelicans among other organisms. The sun and wind have great effect on this level of the ocean. The ocean can be many different temperatures here based on where the Sun is. The ocean temperature "follows" the Sun, so wherever the Sun is it is warmer than the average temperature. This zone is where many divers dive. Here, the continental shelf drops off. The continental shelf is an extension of the continents into the ocean, when it stops, then the ocean gets much deeper.
